The temple is on Khao Yoi hill, with a large cave at the bottom whose mouth faces east and another cave on the summit. It is said that King Mongkut (Rama IV), while still a monk, came here on a wandering retreat and stayed in the Khao Yoi cave.
The cave holds a reclining Buddha, a replica of the Buddha's footprint and other Buddha images, while the summit cave holds an image of Maitreya (Phra Si Ariya Mettrai). The temple was officially founded in 1928 and received its royal grant for an ordination hall boundary (wisungkhamsima) on 18 August 1933.
Inside the new ordination hall are wood carvings telling of the creatures of the Himavanta forest and 35 low-relief stucco panels: on the north side traditional Thai games such as ri ri khao san and tug-of-war, and on the south side Thai customs such as Songkran, building sand chedis and ordination.
