Khao Tao Mo Cave
ถ้ำเขาเตาหม้อ · Also: Tham Khao Tao Mo
A huge limestone cave in the Khao Krapuk–Khao Tao Mo Non-Hunting Area, with throne-hall-like chambers of stalactites over four levels, reached by an 800 m nature trail where stump-tailed macaques and serows live.
Khao Tao Mo Cave is in Tambon Klat Luang, Tha Yang district, inside the Khao Krapuk–Khao Tao Mo Non-Hunting Area, which the Klat Luang subdistrict says was declared a conservation area in 1999. The hills carry dry evergreen forest and limestone plants such as fig, dragon trees, cacti and ebony.
The cave is vast, with chambers like a throne hall, fine stalactites and stalagmites, and a large bat colony. It is divided into four levels, including the “Gateway to Heaven” with a huge rock pillar, the “Crystal Palace” with glittering translucent stone and the “Cloud Palace” with a natural curtain of dripping water.
An 800 m nature trail leads to the cave. It starts with steep concrete steps up to a viewpoint, then follows the hillside round to the cave entrance, with staff along the way. Rare plants such as thian sawang and purple-flowered rusty tea grow beside the path.
The area is home to stump-tailed macaques, now rarely seen in the wild, as well as serows, slow lorises and at least 60 bird species. Feeding the monkeys along the road is not allowed.
When to go
The non-hunting area announced the cave open to visitors in early 2026 (news of 1 February 2026). Visitors are asked to wear a surgical or N95 mask, goggles and gloves throughout the cave and to avoid touching bat droppings or secretions, as a precaution against Nipah virus.
Getting there
From the Tha Yang junction go about 4 km along Phetkasem Road, turn right along Irrigation Canal 2 for about 6 km, turn right at the T-junction for about 15 km to the Khao Luk Chang junction, turn right for about 5 km to the Wat San Het junction, then turn left onto Highway 3410; the entrance is around km 6–7.
