Mae Kradang La Waterfall
น้ำตกแม่กระดังลา · Also: Hing Hoi Waterfall
Part of Kaeng Krachan National Park
A multi-tier waterfall in the Kaeng Krachan World Heritage forest near Ban Lin Chang, Nong Ya Plong, visited on guided community treks, with a bathing pool, camping and fireflies at night by tier 8.
Mae Kradang La Waterfall is inside Kaeng Krachan National Park at Moo 3, Ban Lin Chang, Tambon Yang Nam Klat Nuea, Nong Ya Plong. It is named after the fragrant kradang la plants that grow here in numbers. A clear stream runs through intact forest, and the shady trail often has clouds of butterflies.
The park opens it to visitors as a special management zone, with routes run by the Ban Lin Chang community enterprise: trekking past each tier, bathing at the Wang Mai Ruak pool and camping by the falls. Tier 8 is known as Hing Hoi, the firefly waterfall, because swarms of fireflies light up around it at night.
In October 2025 the park banned entry after a visitor slipped and was injured, citing the remote site, gravel road and lack of phone signal. In October 2026 the park invited visitors back, with a permit and a guide required on every trip. The walk suits fit hikers with full trekking gear.
When to go
Can be visited in any season, especially the rainy season. At night fireflies gather around tier 8. Check the weather before going in the rainy season.
Getting there
From Phetkasem Road (Highway 4), turn off towards Nong Ya Plong for about 38 km (36 km paved, 2 km gravel); a 4x4 is recommended. Apply for a permit at ranger unit KJ.5 (Khao Phu Phlu) and book a park officer or local guide through the Ban Lin Chang community enterprise, then hike several kilometres through forest. The map pin marks Ban Lin Chang, the starting point.
