Khao Yoi Cave
ถ้ำเขาย้อย · Also: Tham Khao Yoi, Wat Tham Khao Yoi
A large limestone cave beneath Khao Yoi hill, inside Wat Tham Khao Yoi, with natural stalactites, many Buddha images including a reclining Buddha, and skylights that throw shafts of light into the main hall.
Khao Yoi Cave is in Wat Khao Yoi (Wat Tham Khao Yoi), Khao Yoi subdistrict and district. It is a large limestone cave at the foot of the hill, with its mouth facing east. Inside are natural stalactites and stalagmites, and openings in the roof let shafts of light into the main hall, a favourite spot for photos and for worship.
The cave holds a reclining Buddha, a replica Buddha footprint and many other Buddha images. A second cave at the top of the hill holds an image of Maitreya, the future Buddha. It is said that King Mongkut (Rama IV), while still a monk, stayed in this cave on a forest pilgrimage.
