Wat Uthai Photharam

วัดอุทัยโพธาราม · Also known as: Wat Photharam, Wat Uthai

Period
Rattanakosin period

Wat Photharam was founded in 1847 and at times was almost abandoned. In 1949 it merged with Wat Uthai and took the name Wat Uthai Photharam. It received its royal grant for an ordination hall boundary (wisungkhamsima) on 22 October 2000.

King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) visited the temple in 1904 and again in 1909, during his tour of Monthon Ratchaburi, to see the principal Buddha image made of bronze. The temple was supported by Than Phu Ying U, wife of Chao Phraya Suraphan Phisut (Thet Bunnag).

The ordination hall is a mahaut-style building in Rattanakosin style. In front of it stand two small chedis with twelve indented corners, and the brick bell tower is shaped like an octagonal fort.
