Wat Khao Ban Dai It is a Mahanikai community temple on the summit of Khao Ban Dai It, a small hill 121 m high. It is believed to have been a religious site since the Sukhothai period, though the surviving archaeological evidence dates from the mid-Ayutthaya period.
Legend says King Suea of Ayutthaya came here many times, restored the temple and placed a standing Buddha image in a cave, which locals call Phra Phuttha Chao Suea.
The hill has several caves, among them Tham Phra Chao Suea with a Buddha in the blessing posture, Tham Phra Non with a golden reclining Buddha, and Tham Duke, where Duke John Albert of Mecklenburg, a friend of King Rama V, once meditated.
On the south-eastern shoulder of the hill stands a group of old buildings: an ordination hall whose pediment has stucco scrollwork with Garuda figures, a vihara, and a chedi on a lion base, ringed by a low balustrade set with green Chinese glazed tiles.
