Wat Sa Bua is a Mahanikai community temple. The Department of Religious Affairs records its founding in 1941, but surviving evidence suggests it dates back to the Ayutthaya period.

Its compact, boat-shaped ordination hall with a curved base is thought to date from the late Ayutthaya period, in the reign of King Prasat Thong. The east pediment carries stucco of Narayana riding a demon, and inside are murals and an Ayutthaya-period principal Buddha.

The hall is ringed by paired red-sandstone boundary markers (sema). Their bases bear stucco of giants and people of 12 nations, topped by tiers of Garuda, kracang leaf motifs and lotuses, classed as late-Ayutthaya stucco work.
