Khao Luang Cave has stalactites and stalagmites across its walls and wide openings where sunlight falls on the rock. King Mongkut (Rama IV) once visited the cave and had a stairway built from the foot of the hill down to the cave floor.
The cave holds old Buddha images placed here before the Rattanakosin era, such as a 14 m reclining Buddha, which Rama IV had restored. He also had four 'reign' Buddha images made, dedicated to Kings Rama I–III and to himself.
Under King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) a temple was established in the cave to make merit for his father, and more images were added, including five reign images. A large troop of monkeys lives here.
