Wat Bandai Thong stands on the bank of the Phetchaburi River on a site that is almost an island. It was built in 1732, in the reign of King Borommakot, and received its royal grant for an ordination hall boundary (wisungkhamsima) in 1737.
The present ordination hall, built in 1980, encloses the old one, but the red sandstone boundary markers around it are original, as are the small chedis in front, which have been restored.
The temple also has a cruciform mondop decorated with stucco and a brick bell tower blending Thai, Western and Chinese styles, topped by an indented chedi and decorated with Chinese-style floral stucco, as well as a Thai-style pavilion at the river landing and a sermon hall built as a cluster of Thai houses.
