- Ayutthaya period (suggested by its boundary stones)
- Highlights
- Chedi
Wat Sai Thong is a community temple of the Mahanikai order. It was founded in 1898 and received its royal grant of consecrated land (wisungkhamsima) on 25 August 1998, but its antiquities point to an older past: the sema boundary stones probably date to the Ayutthaya period, and the chedis are in a style popular from the late Ayutthaya to the early Rattanakosin period.
The old ordination hall faces east and has been restored; its sema are plain red sandstone. In front of it stand five ornate redented chedis on lion-footed bases. A new ordination hall was built in 1990.
Revered objects include a gold Chiang Saen-style Buddha image 5 inches across the lap, four ancient Chinese-style gold lion figures (Thep Norasing) and a cast statue of Luang Pho Pu depicted as a chi phram (lay ascetic).
