Wat Bang Khun Sai
วัดบางขุนไทร
Wat Bang Khun Sai was founded in 1880 and is named after the village, whose leading figure in its development is thought to have held the rank of khun. Local tradition says a wandering monk called Luang Pho Thon set up camp here, and devoted villagers built him a monk’s cell.
An inscription beneath the principal image of the old ordination hall records that a husband and wife made it in R.S. 118. The temple received its royal grant of consecrated land (wisungkhamsima) on 24 June 1979; its reinforced-concrete ordination hall was built in 1973.
Revered objects include the adorned Rattanakosin-period principal image of R.S. 118, a Buddha image in the posture of fasting austerity (1933), one in the posture of going forth to help beings (1929), and a replica Buddha footprint and a figure of a deity playing the phin lute (both 1924).
