Phra Nakhon Khiri Historical Park (Khao Wang)

อุทยานประวัติศาสตร์พระนครคีรี (เขาวัง)

Mueang Phetchaburi

Phra Nakhon Khiri Historical Park (Khao Wang) is a palace on a hilltop in the middle of Phetchaburi town, built in the reign of King Rama IV. Besides the historic buildings and the view over the town, Khao Wang is known for the troops of long-tailed macaques that live on its slopes, and visitors often meet monkeys on the way up.

What animals are there

  • Long-tailed macaques living in the wild around Khao Wang, seen along the paths up the hill

Activities and entry

  • Entry for Thai visitors walking up the hill: 20 baht (reviews, May–Jul 2026)
  • Tram up the hill: 90 baht for Thai visitors (review, 24 May 2026)
  • Monkey watching only; there is no monkey feeding

Good to know before you go

A reviewer in Jul 2026 saw some monkeys along the path but said they were not very aggressive. Keep food and anything in your hands out of reach and do not feed the monkeys, as the monkeys at Khao Wang have been in the news for snatching food and belongings; in late 2023 the authorities moved some of them to Huai Sai Wildlife Breeding Station. The path up is not very steep, and it is cooler in the morning. Rated 4.5 from 5,992 reviews on Google (Oct 2026).
