Laem Leo

A long sandbar off Ban Laem that appears as the tide goes out, edged by mangroves with crab-eating macaques and shorebirds, where villagers push mud sleds to gather cockles in one of Thailand's big cockle grounds.
Laem Leo is a large sandbar that juts out into the sea at Ban Laem. When the tide drops it shows clearly as a long ridge of sand.
Mangroves around the point are home to crab-eating macaques and shorebirds such as black-winged stilt, marsh sandpiper, Javan pond heron and little egret. Local villagers push wooden mud sleds across the flats to gather cockles, as Laem Leo is one of Thailand's large cockle grounds, and there are restaurants where you can eat with a view.
